Alderwoman Cara Spencer has made frequent appearances in LGBTQ+ spaces throughout the campaign. On Sunday, Bastille will host a meet and greet for her at 1:30 p.m. The bar will be serving pork carnitas and street corn.  At 3:00, Just John will host a “Sashay to the Ballot Box” event for the candidate.

Mayor Tishaura Jones has been less visible in community spaces, but has been a vocal supporter of the community over the past four years. In May, for instance, Jones signed an executive order that her office said established “new practices in key city departments to be more inclusive of diverse gender identities.”

In March, Spencer more than doubled Jones’ vote total, and the campaign has become increasingly heated over the past month. In the LGBTQ+ community, centrists have overwhelmingly supported Spencer, while progressives have been more likely to back Jones.

Tuesday is the Election Day, but early voting is already underway. Polling places can be found here.
