All-Star Cast (and Some Filler) to Roast Grey Fox Pub (and One Another) on March 29

Some 25 years ago, Tumara Mahorning and fellow Grey Fox show director Michelle McCausland performed a really long number.  I mean crazy long. All to distract everyone from noticing that tons of wigs, gowns and jewelry were being schlepped down the back stairs to waiting vehicles (thieves did notice, and stole some of it). When friends gave them the cue, they wrapped up that number and strolled out, never to set foot in the storied establishment again. Or that was the plan.

On March 29, Tumara will make her first appearance since that infamous night, and she will read that place for filth. All in good fun, though. And for a good cause. 100% of ticket sales benefit Pride St. Louis.

“With everything going on in the country, we need community now more than ever, ” Manager Max Michael Klapp explains when asked why he was planning a roast of the bar he intends to buy. “I wanted to create an experience that provides a night of fellowship, philanthropy, and most of all, fun! All while paying homage to the past, introducing the new and ushering in the future of what entertainment looks like at The Grey Fox Pub. I have zero interest in mimicking or even bringing established shows around the city to our venue, but rather focus on what’s new and what’s next. The Grey Fox Pub was one of the first of its kind and is now the oldest LGBTQIA+ establishment in St. Louis. I’m here to carry the torch and most importantly, remind people that we are here and are not going anywhere.”

Dieta Pepsi first hit the Grey Fox stage in 1988, and will be my co-emcee. “As a performer who has graced the stage at The Grey Fox for decades it’s an honor to give them the kinda roast they deserve. Many of us busted our cherries at the Grey Fox.”

For nearly 37 years, the gritty Grey Fox has been a launchpad for talent. Now, those who have graced the stage will return to have the last laugh. Names like Candy Principle, Jade Sincair, Manna Steticçc Highland and many more. Tickets are $15 and showtime is at 7:00 pm.

The Grey Fox has been a sanctuary during some very dark moments in our history, and it continues to be the site of many good times. It’s a place where our stories are written, and on March 29th, it will be a place where those stories will be told—and much tea will be spilled.
