On Valentine’s Day, The Little Bevo, Tower Grove Pride, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abortion Action Missouri and the Collaboration Center of St. Louis organized the first in what will be a series of marriage equality events. This month’s event was emceed by Sister Mairy Godmother and Jordan Braxton.

Six couples were married throughout the day, with a lively shared reception following. The Little Bevo donated their gorgeous space, and sponsors included Sugar Witch, Beignet All Day, and Key Cakes. Luann Denten, also known as “The Maven,” and husband Joe Denten gave every couple a champagne basket in their wedding colors with crystal flutes.

The only cost to the couples was the marriage license.

“We’re trying to do our part to give people a beautiful day to celebrate and marry their person,” owner Nick Fruend said. “I know a lot of people, myself included, are rushing their timelines and I want it to feel as special as possible.”

The Maven was stationed there throughout the day to fill the parental role for anyone who needed her, and volunteers in rainbow-colored vests from Abortion Action Missouri were stationed outside the venue and along Morgan Ford Road.

The Little Bevo has become one of our community’s most beloved spaces, and hosts a well-attended drag brunch every third Sunday.
