SMASH BASH!

A grudge match is upon us, ladies and gentlemen! The pent-up anger goes back to last April, when two-time Arch Rival Roller Derby champions the Stunt Devils tried to clinch a three-peat, but fell instead to the hungry Smashinistas in the season finale. Now the Stunt Devils are hell-bent on showing that it was all a fluke, that they alone are St. Louis’ supreme squad of wheeled warriors. They’ll get their chance for revenge on the night of December 16 during the league’s home opener at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin. With more than 70 active skaters, Arch Rival Roller Derby is our city’s only nationally certified all-female flat-track league, and things get physical. Real physical. “It’s rough-and-tumble,” says Sandy Giovannetti of the M80s team. “We all end up with bruises.” The big question is: Who will end up with more at the home opener?

Arch Rival Roller Derby, $12 on game day, free for children under 10, Sat. Dec. 16, doors 6 p.m., game 6:30 p.m., Midwest Sport Hockey, 570 Weidman Rd., Ballwin, 636-230-6466, www.archrivalrollerderby.com.
