A revamped Bubby & Sissy’s opened to rave reviews last night.
“Oh honey. The new Bubby and Sissy’s is fire,” said Ken Snyders, who has been patronizing the club’s various incarnations since it was the Metro in the 1980s. “The club vibe is so strong. The place is beautifully lit and painted.. gilded mirrors, amazing pictures… The bathrooms are unisex and they are amazing for the first time ever! The sound system is on point. I just can’t praise it enough! Barry Church as half owner and manager was the perfect host. He and his partner talked to everybody, especially the old guard. And one of my art pieces has a place of prominence once again after all these years. Bravo!”
The Miss Bubby & Sissy’s Pageant was part of the festivities. Chasity Valentino returned for the first time in nine months to judge the event, writing on social media, “It’s time for me to come back home!” Valentino teased that we may be seeing more of her at Bubby’s. Their 2024 Queen, Amazing Grace, stepped down, and Mimi M VanCartier snatched the 2025 crown.
With the recent closure of Belleville’s Club Escapade, Bubby’s is the last remaining LGBTQ+ bar in the Metro East. The new lease on life has invigorated residents of “The Bi-Muda Triangle” and beyond, promising an exciting new chapter for the beloved institution.
