John Arnold, co-owner of the popular LGBTQ bar Just John, is recovering after suffering a massive heart attack on Sunday following a pickleball game, according to an update shared by his husband, Adam Arnold.
Arnold experienced what his cardiologist described as a “widow maker” heart attack — a 100% blockage of a critical coronary artery — an event that carries a low survival rate. A stent was placed, and medical professionals have emphasized how fortunate Arnold is to have survived. Adam Arnold noted that his husband is among the estimated 5–12% of patients who live through such a severe cardiac event.
After a difficult first 24 hours, Arnold was extubated Monday morning and has shown “significant progress,” according to ICU physicians. While he faces a long road to recovery, his family says that journey is now underway. Arnold is currently receiving care at SSM St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, where he remains resting under close medical supervision.
In his post, Adam Arnold expressed deep gratitude to friends, chosen family, and the individuals at Missouri Pickleball Club who played critical roles in saving John’s life, calling their actions courageous and life-saving. He also thanked the wider community for the outpouring of messages, calls, and support during what he described as a whirlwind 24 hours.
Further updates are expected as John Arnold continues his recovery.
