You ever walk into your home and feel like something’s just, off? Like the energy’s crusty and maybe something’s lurking that doesn’t pay rent?
Over time, the energy in your home, just like everything else in it, needs a good cleaning. The trick is knowing when that time has come. Here are a few signs it’s time to cleanse.
- You keep waking up tired, even when you get a ton of sleep and go to bed early.
- You walk into your space and there is a sense of heaviness in the air.
- Your pets keep staring at corners or odd spots in the room.
- Smells seem to come up from nowhere, like the smell of something burning, cigarette smoke, or a familiar perfume, or some other smell that seems out of place.
Step 1: Get Salty!
For ages, salt has been used as a cleansing and protective agent. Some witches cast their circles in it. You can also use it in baths to cleanse yourself!
To use salt, you can add some salt to your mop water and mop the house from back to front. Make sure you dump the remainder on your front porch! If you don’t have hard surface floors to mop, sprinkle a bit of salt I to the corner of each room.
Step 2: Sound the Alarm
Bad spirits/energy hate loud, high-pitched noises (same, honestly).
Grab a bell, bang some pots, clap your hands, or do your best Beyoncé vocal warm-up while stomping around the house like you pay the bills, because you do. Sound moves stagnant/negative energy and sends freeloading spirits packing.
️Step 3: Smoke ‘Em Out
This is one of the most well known and popular methods of cleansing! Sage, rosemary, mugwort, incense—pick your smoke and let it do the work. Open the windows unless you want the ghosts to get secondhand high. Start at the back of your house and work your way towards the front.
As you work your way through the house you can say a prayer or mantra that helps focus your intention below is an example of something that is simple and could be useful : “I Banish this stagnant/ negative energy from my home.”
You can say it softly or you can yell it, (I don’t recommend yelling if you live in close quarters with your neighbors, unless you want a visit from them and or the cops). You can also chant. You can whisper threats in Latin. Honestly, do what works.
Step 4: Clean Like You’re Mad at the Dirt
This method is the easiest to maintain and get away with, especially if you have roomies or relatives living with you. Dust those shelves. Vacuum under the couch. Toss out the clutter that holds your ex’s energy. Yes, even that t-shirt “for sleeping.” I see you.
Step 5: Seal the Deal
Now that you’ve kicked the bad juju out, seal your space up like a magical sandwich.
- Dab some Florida Water on doorways.
- Draw sigils in oil behind frames.
- Tuck protective herbs above doors.
- Place a bowl of water with basil and lemon at your front door for cleansing guests as they enter your home.
Say a little something like: “This home is mine. This space is sacred. Only love and light may everything else, hit the bricks.”
Final Thoughts:
Cleansing your home isn’t just about getting rid of bad vibes—it’s about reclaiming your power, your peace, and your sacred space. So if the energy feels icky, the shadows are creeping, or your plants are dying for no reason? Don’t panic. Just cleanse, charm, and carry on.
Because in this house: we banish. We bless. We don’t play.
